Plumber Palmyra

Palmyra WA 6157, City of Melville. About 14 km south-west of the Perth CBD.

Palmyra lies about fourteen kilometres south-west of the Perth CBD in the City of Melville, established as the Palmyra Estate in 1903 and bounded by Canning Highway, Stock Road and Leach Highway, with Fremantle Cemetery on its south-eastern edge. Much of its housing is a century old. For a plumber that means genuinely ancient drainage in places, limestone under every excavation, and character homes where a renovation has to work around what is already there.

• Limestone under the groundThis close to Fremantle the soil gives way to limestone, and a trench for a water line, a sewer repair or a soak well is slower and harder than the same job on the sand plain. It is the main reason a Palmyra quote differs from one further east.
• Housing old enough that records run outA Palmyra house can date from the first decade of last century, and its drainage has usually been altered several times since. We camera the line before quoting rather than assuming a standard layout, because what is under the floor is frequently a surprise.
• Character homes and what can be changedRenovating a kitchen or bathroom in an old Palmyra house means routing new pipework without tearing out original fabric. That needs planning before the work starts rather than decisions made once a wall is open.
• Busy roads on three boundariesCanning Highway, Stock Road and Leach Highway ring the suburb, which keeps Palmyra quick to reach at any hour but means work on those frontages has to be planned and permitted rather than improvised.
