Plumber Hillman

Hillman WA 6168, City of Rockingham. About 43 km south of the Perth CBD.

Hillman is a compact residential suburb about forty-three kilometres south of the Perth CBD in the City of Rockingham, created in 1970, with much of its northern and eastern ground falling inside Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. For a plumber that means 1970s services across most of the housing, a winter water table on the park side, and a conservation reserve immediately downstream of it.

• Wet ground toward the regional parkThe lakes on the northern and eastern side keep groundwater close to the surface through winter. Soak wells on those blocks fill quickly and clear slowly, so stormwater there is about finding an outlet rather than adding soakage capacity.
• A conservation reserve downstreamRockingham Lakes Regional Park sits immediately below part of the suburb, so what leaves a Hillman property matters. Stormwater and wash-down need handling properly rather than being directed at the nearest low point.
• Seventies housing on original servicesMost Hillman houses are still running the drainage and often the pipework they were built with. That is the age at which original pipe begins failing repeatedly, so a recurring leak here deserves an inspection rather than another patch.
• Fifty years of garden over the drainageMature trees and shrubs now sit over the original earthenware sewer lines. Roots into those joints are the most common reason we are called to a Hillman house, and clearing them is a holding measure rather than a repair.
