Plumber Karrakatta

Karrakatta WA 6010, City of Nedlands. About 7 km west of the Perth CBD.

Karrakatta lies about seven kilometres west of the Perth CBD within the City of Nedlands, and the Fremantle railway line divides it into two distinct halves. South of the line is Karrakatta Cemetery, which opened in 1899, together with a small industrial area of monument builders, associated businesses and the City of Nedlands depot. North of the line and the railway station is the Australian Defence Force's Irwin Barracks. There is effectively no residential housing in the suburb.

• Effectively no residential housingKarrakatta is a cemetery, a small industrial area, a council depot and army barracks. There are almost no houses, so the plumbing here is commercial and institutional work: public amenity blocks, grounds irrigation, trade waste and depot drainage rather than domestic repairs.
• Grounds that have been in use since 1899The cemetery has operated since 1899, so the water reticulation and drainage serving the grounds spans more than a century of installation and extension. We locate and camera those lines before excavating rather than working from a plan that may be decades out of date.
• Monument builders and a council depotThe industrial pocket south of the railway holds stone yards and the City of Nedlands depot. Sites like that generate washdown water and sediment that cannot simply go to the sewer, so they need arrestors and trade waste drainage kept clear and compliant.
• Irwin Barracks north of the railway lineThe barracks is a large institutional site with accommodation, kitchens and amenity blocks operating to its own schedule. Work there is booked and coordinated rather than attended on spec, and it has to fit around the site's access requirements.
